Abstract

This essay reflects on the analogy between musical silence in dance and the nursing care pause. It proposes the pause not as an absence of activity, but as a mental health intervention necessary for the professional’s homeostasis and the quality of care, through a review that integrates Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring and concepts from neurobiology, the text concludes that the implementation of restorative micro-pauses allows for a “vagal retuning” and the ontological availability necessary for humanized care. Ultimately, defending the right to silence and rest is proposed as an administrative ethics strategy and a structural component for the sustainability of the healthcare system.
