Fragile old woman: opportunities for healthy aging

Introduction: Aging population is a gradual and adaptive process that is characterized by a relative reduction of morphological, physiological, biochemical, and psychological responses coming for the age. This fact implies big challenges in caring to contribute to a healthy aging through the nursing process.
Objective: giving home cares to an old woman with fragility to encourage healthy aging, through the 14 needs approach by Virginia Henderson.
Methodology: This is a case study in which the nursing process was used in its five steps, with in the valuation frame of fourteen need by Virginia Henderson.
Case presentation: It is about an 87-year-old elder, she is an independent woman in everyday activities. The Pfeiffer questionnaire reports a slight mental impairment. Results on the Tinetti test show a slight impairment in equilibrium, walk, and visual acuity. According to the valuation results the diagnosis inferences were established, the expected results with the Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) and the nursing interventions proposed by Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC), and the recommendations of guides of clinical practice.
Conclusion: The hierarchical organization of the needs allowed giving interventions based on the scientific evidence and getting positive changes.
