Nursing intervention in continuous renal replacement therapies with advanced technologies: Systematic Review
Keywords:

Introduction. Continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT) are vital for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury. Advanced technologies have transformed these therapies, redefining nursing roles and demanding new competencies.
Objective. To synthesize available evidence on nursing interventions in CRRT, defining advanced technologies (electronic documentation systems, remote monitoring, miniaturized devices, and therapy modalities) and their outcomes of interest (patient safety, efficiency, nursing competencies, and workload).
Methods. A PRISMA-guided systematic review was conducted, searching PubMed, DOAJ, SciELO, LILACS, and Cochrane Library using relevant MeSH/DeCS terms. Studies published between 2019-2025 specifically addressing nursing interventions in technologically
advanced CRRT with full text available were included.
Results. Five articles with heterogeneous methodological designs were identified. Findings were organized around key categories: nursing role, required competencies, technological impact on practice, and patient safety. Advanced technologies, such as electronic documentation systems, remote alarm monitoring, and miniaturized devices, have redefined nursing responsibilities. Staff training was consistently highlighted as critical for ensuring patient safety in this advanced technological context.
Conclusions. Advanced technologies transform nursing practice in CRRT, enhancing efficiency and potentially improving patient safety. However, significant challenges persist regarding staff training and practice standardization. Further studies are warranted to
evaluate the impact of these technologies on patient clinical outcomes.
