Introduction. Alcohol has been ingested through the centuries. A relevant aspect is attitudes towards consumption, increasing the probability of carrying out this practice, in addition, availability and regulation are political aspects with the potential to increase perceptions favorable to consumption.
Objective. To determine the influence of the perception of public policies and attitudes with alcohol consumption in healthcare personnel.
Methodology. Descriptive, correlational and predictive design, carried out in 165 participants using systematic sampling 1 out of 3, with random onset. Using a Data Card, a Policy Support Instrument to Reduce Associated Problems, Scale of Attitudes Towards Consumption, The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test.
Results. A positive association was identified in age and perception of policies (rs= .163, p< .05), age and attitudes towards consumption (rs= .223, p< .001) and perception of policies and attitudes towards consumption (rs= .335, p< .001). Negative relationships in age and consumption (rs= -.304, p< .001), schooling and consumption (rs= -.170, p< .05), perception of policies and consumption (rs= -.361, p< .001) and attitudes towards consumption and consumption (rs= -.473, p< .001). Age (β= -.098, p= .027), schooling (β= -1.15, p= .002), perception of policies (β= -.065, p= .010) and attitudes towards consumption (β= -.172, p= .001), showed a negative effect on consumption.
Conclusion. The magnitude of the problem is evident, raising the need to formulate institutional policies in order to promote greater perception in favor of the reduction of alcohol consumption.
