Nursing Care in Patient with HELLP Syndrome: Case Study
Abstract
Introduction. HELLP syndrome represents one of the most severe complications at the end of pregnancy, consisting of the triad of hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and thrombocytopenia. It is a rare clinical affection that impacts about 0.5% and 0.9% of pregnancies in the world, but of great health onslaught to its high fetal and maternal mortality.
Objective. To provide nursing care using NANDA, NOC and NIC languages to a patient with a diagnosis of HELLP syndrome.
Methodology. Case study based on the five stages of the nursing process. The assessment was developed using Marjory Gordon's 11 functional health patterns, the diagnostic stage was based on the NANDA taxonomy, the outcomes were planned and evaluated using the NOC language and the interventions were formulated around NIC.
Case presentation. A 25-year-old woman, hospitalized in an intensive care unit during the immediate puerperium with diagnoses of severe preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome. She presented with acute pain, signs of respiratory distress and blood pressure above normal values.
Conclusion. The provision of nursing care under the methodological support of the nursing process, integrating the NANDA, NOC and NIC languages, achieved favorable results in the patient with HELLP syndrome.
