Abstract

Hector Beloascaran Shayne, is the protagonist of some of the novels written by Paco Ignacio Taibo II. The present work is devoted to study this character as a mechanism used by the society so that justice can be dealt out considering that the State and its institutions are not only inefficient, but also part of the problem of the lack of justice most of the times. Despite the deception caused in the people by the revolutionary movements (Mexican Revolution, the Student Movement of 1968), emotions play an important role in the connection between the individual and his/her surroundings. Belascoarán Shayne is a contradictory and irrational character who looks for justice and unity through his work as a detective in a broken Mexico.
