HEALTH EFFECTS OF HEAVY METAL CONTAMINATION IN FAST FOODS

Abstract

The objective of this literature review is to inform about the content of different types of fast
food and the adverse effects on health due to excessive consumption of fast food, as well as
to evaluate various diseases caused by this consumption and the effects caused by the high
toxic levels contained in these processed foods. The research was carried out in order to make
known the content of heavy metals in fast food, since they are foods that the population consumes
very frequently and can be harmful to health, so it is important to alert about the effects
of excessive consumption of this food for disease prevention. The methodology was based on a
review of articles related to the subject in which information was collected for the development
of this work. A search was established with the topics of interest and in relation to the topic to
be developed since the topic is extensive, that is to say, it includes the production sector up to
the commercialization of these. With this research we can conclude that mainly fast food such
as hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and wings, are the foods that frequently cause harmful effects to
human health, as they are those that have a high content of heavy metals; therefore it is important
to replace them with healthier foods, with the same protein content and nutritional value,
such as salad, tuna, boiled vegetables and consume products that are free of preservatives to
avoid possible diseases.
