Abstract

Since the first detection of a molecule in the interstellar medium in 1937, the idea that the interstellar medium was empty space has changed radically. With the development of new technologies and the impetus of space exploration, about 280 molecular species have been detected. Among these molecules are carbon chains, which display amazing chemistry and can form exotic structures that defy the understanding of conventional chemistry. Given their characteristics and the conditions where they can be found, there is a great difficulty in synthesizing them in the laboratories, which is why some carbon chains have remained unidentified. Thus, a proper theoretical study of these molecules is required to understand how they are formed and whether their existence is possible. The present work addresses a study on the unidentified carbon chain C7H2. Using computational tools, the aim is to show its formation through a fascinating network of chemical reactions and prove that this molecule can exist in the interstellar medium.
