Abstract

The objective of this article is to highlight, through the dreams of specialists, the importance that the Nahuas assigned to the landscape within the ritual practices of the Southern Huasteca, in the north of Veracruz. In this sense, I consider these stories to be part of a biocultural memory that characterizes the nahuas’s religious thought system. For this article I consider the contributions of Johanna Broda (1996) regarding the ritual landscape to analyze the natural spaces where rituals are performed, as well as the concept of biocultural memory proposed by Toledo and Bassols (2008) and Eckart Boege (2010) for the analysis of the knowledge that native nahuas express about nature.

E-mail: perez.apango92@gmail.com Graduated in History from the Veracruzana University and Master in Mesoamerican Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He currently works as a teacher by subject at the Faculty of History of the Universidad Veracruzana. He has collaborated in various projects teaching and preservation of the intangible heritage of the Huasteca (traditional music). His lines of research focus on the history and anthropology of indigenous peoples from a focus on contemporary phenomena and the history of the present. He works on topics such as the worldview, rituality, and traditional Huasteca music. He has been a speaker at conferences and academic events related to his lines of study.
