The detective novels: a genre in question

Abstract

Despite the perception of the detective novels as repetitive, full of clichés and scarce of aesthetic value, this genre shows peculiarities in its theoretical definition and classification which are worth being studied. This paper is intended to show the hybridization and transgression processes that the Latin-American detective novel has gone through. Such processes have made the problem even more complex rising new questions and generating new meanings of this kind of literature. Therefore, a reflection about the position and intention of this literary subgenre is needed.
