Transversalizing the gender and human rights perspective in nursing degrees

Abstract

Aim. Analyze the relevance and impact of cross-cutting the human rights perspective and gender as critical categories in nursing programs, taking as a proxy the curricula and/or disciplinary learning units.

Summary of content. Gender and human rights gain visibility as critical and practical categories since the 2030 Agenda of the SDGs, where their relevance in the processes of health and reduction of inequalities becomes evident. These categories are generally not transversalized in nursing degree programs and biomedical and behavioral approaches prevail. This will have repercussions for both students and the populations accessing nursing care.  

Conclusion. Nursing education programs and teachers are transformative enclaves to contribute to social justice and a culture of peace. Nursing care should be inclusive and intersectional, with awareness of class and race and should recognize in practice and discursively the diversity of societies in a framework of rights and from a gender perspective, in order not to erase the differences assuming that an action in health is the same for all people.
