Abstract
With the sulfonamides, the development of synthetic antibiotics began, at the time it was a great help for pain and relief of many diseases that saved many human lives, in addition, they were the basis for the generation of new antibiotics for human and animal infections. Sulfonamides have played a key role in the recovery of health. However, the excessive use of these antibiotics together with their abuse in different productive activities such as: livestock, have caused their appearance in different environmental compartments and are called emerging contaminants. The presence and permanence of these contaminants represents a risk to environmental health and the population because they are ecotoxic and teratogenic and favor the acquisition of antibiotic resistance in both pathogenic and native bacteria.
