Abstract

The study of the intestinal microbiota has grown exponentially in the last decade, and its importance in the human health-disease process is becoming evident. It has been implicated as mitigating the severity of many diseases, and this article reviewed its importance for the strength of the immune system and its response to SARS-CoV-2 infection. It was found that by enjoying a healthy microbiota, the inflammation that occurs in the body decreases and the effects caused by COVID-19 are diminished, allowing a better immune response to the virus. For this reason, conditions that can transgress the microbiota and how to restore the balance between the microbiota and the human being to maintain the health of the individual were pointed out.
