Abstract

Do you feel stressed or anxious every time you get a shot? Then this article will interest you! Currently, there is an
innovative technology that makes it possible to administer drugs to the human body without needles, thanks to jet
injectors. This type of injector generates a column of liquid with a micrometric diameter that is ejected at a very high
speed in order to penetrate the tissue by its own momentum. Initially, jet injectors used mechanical or electromechanical
methods to operate. However, in the last 10 years, our group has explored a novel technique based on optical
cavitation, which involves the formation, growth and collapse of a vapor bubble in a liquid, induced by a laser.
Our group has used this technique to develop needle-free injections using a laser to generate the necessary impulse
and expel the liquid at high speeds, demonstrating that they can penetrate skin models. This optical technique is
proving to be an effective and less invasive alternative for drug delivery. It could also eliminate the unpleasant sensations
associated with traditional injections. In short, jet injectors represent a revolution in drug delivery by eliminating
the need for needles and reducing patient anxiety. In the near future, we may be able to say goodbye to needles
and receive treatments more comfortably and without fear. The era of needle-free injections is fast approaching
