Abstract

Despite the great efforts to replace the use of pesticides in agriculture, their consumption to obtain raw materials quickly and at a lower price is fundamental. Since 1974, when glyphosate positioned itself as the most widely used herbicide in the world, it has modified entire ecosystems, contaminating soils, groundwater, and harvested products. The negative effects of this herbicide are now widely recognized, including on non-target organisms such as bees and consequently on beekeeping systems. The estimation of the impact on beekeeping environments requires a multidisciplinary perspective to achieve a real understanding of anthropogenic action. The objective of this article is to describe in a multidisciplinary way the environmental complexity involved in the contamination of honey bee honey by glyphosate. To this end, factors such as the agriculture-apiculture interrelationship in the presence of glyphosate, the routes in which honey contamination occurs, and the effects of glyphosate use on human health are addressed. Finally, an agroecological management proposal is proposed to minimize the contamination of honey with glyphosate.
