Abstract

The Conquest, as a historical event or as a series of processes of violent and sudden cultural change, marks a horizon and a critical approach for the consideration of the Latin American present and for the study of its genesis in multiple discursive and material dimensions. The linear and colonizing vision around the civilization process of the supposedly "barbaric" and "idolatrous" peoples is part of the legitimizing narrative of the Conquest; the exhibition of the documents and narratives of the vanquished and the variety and richness of their cultural productions are part of a conscious exercise of historical memory and ethical commitment towards the labyrinth of vestiges and rhizomatic relationships with the present.

The Conquest and its ramifications in the discourse and materiality of the American territories are not a unique and isolated historical fact. Its implications in the management of communities and in the conduct of economic processes go through the struggles for Independence, the War of Reform, the Mexican Revolution and the insertion of Mexico in the global market in the neoliberal era and post-Fordist capitalism. For this reason, the consideration of history as an opening and as a totality of processes allows both the critical insertion of the discourse, and the confrontation of horizons in an open immersion in the new struggles of the present.

In this volume of Graffylia we seek to reflect the complexity and relevance of the Conquest based on various contributions that range from historiography, film analysis, logic, historical science and the philosophy of history, to decolonial hermeneutics and intercultural pedagogy.
