Abstract

Skin injuries, such as wounds and acne, affect the first line of bodily defense which is the skin itself, thus, making it susceptible to pathogens. One of the most common cases is acne vulgaris, which is an infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Proptontbacterium acnes. However, there are certain treatments based on natural products that have been used since ancient times due to their numerous benefits. A case in point is Aloe vera, which has been used to treat skin injuries for centuries, mainly in cicatrization. Aloe vera has several properties that are beneficial to human health. Therefore, this paper aims to review the active compounds that make it up and its mechanisms of action that have been proposed by a number of authors. In addition, Aloe vera is presented as an efficient option to treat skin injuries caused by acne due to its numerous benefits.
