Peer Review

Mirada Antropológica is a refereed publication. Therefore, anonymous academic peers with institutional affiliation different from that of the authors, with a formal, structured and documented procedure, are responsible for the review and acceptance of articles.

The process of acceptance of an article consists of two stages: prequalification and opinion. The prequalification is carried out by the Editor and the Editorial Committee of the journal, with the support of members of the Scientific Committee; the former verify that the article corresponds to the subject matter of the journal, is scientific, relevant and unpublished, and reasonably meets the criteria set forth in this guide. The latter, based on the review of the abstract of the article, issues its concept in terms of relevance of the topic and adequacy of the author's approach. The result of this stage may be: preliminary acceptance and approval; conditional acceptance with recommendations for improvement; or definitive non-acceptance.

Articles that pass the prequalification are submitted to a double-blind peer review process. In this process, anonymous academic peers, with institutional affiliation different from that of the author, with postgraduate level training, with broad knowledge of the central theme of the article, under a formal, structured and documented procedure that includes the use of a standard format, are in charge of its review and decision. The reviewers, in their decisions, may recommend: publication without changes; publication conditioned to adjustments; and non-publication. If the author does not agree with the reviewer's decision, he/she may appeal. In this case, the editor will send the article to a new reviewer, whose decision, if consistent with the first, will be final and unappealable. If there are differences between the decisions of the two reviewers, the article will be sent to a third reviewer, whose opinion will be final and unappealable. The decisions of the prequalification and review processes are formally communicated to the authors by the Editor. Those of prequalification, at the latest, fifteen calendar days after receipt of the article, and those of the opinion, as far as possible, no later than thirty days after the prequalification decision. The deadline for authors to submit their final papers with the adjustments required by the peer review process varies depending on the situation, but is expected to take no more than thirty calendar days. All authors, by submitting their articles for consideration by the journal, accept this qualification process and agree to make the adjustments re-commended by the reviewers in the first or last instance, as appropriate.
