Resumen

El descubrimiento de los virus gigantes ha causado un desafío dentro del entendimiento del concepto mismo de virus, poniendo en duda su naturaleza, su composición, tamaño, funciones y propiedades que pueden presentar, así como el papel que estos jugaron en el desarrollo de la vida, la evolución y su origen viral, brindando nuevas perspectivas para el entendimiento de estos. Por lo que en este trabajo se presenta de forma clara todo lo que uno necesita saber acerca de estos nuevos virus gigantes, plasmando las características y generalidades de estos, su impacto en los conocimientos actuales que se tienen sobre este tipo de organismos, así como las implicaciones a futuro que podrían desencadenar en la salud humana.
