PLANTAS: UNA ALTERNATIVA PARA INHIBIR LA CORROSIÓN DEL ACERO AL CARBONO

Resumen
Por décadas, la industria ha sido un elemento fundamental en la consolidación de la mayoría de las economías a nivel mundial. La creciente demanda de bienes específicos para satisfacer las necesidades del ser humano ha traído una sobreexplotación de recursos naturales y, en muchos de los casos, daños importantes al medio ambiente. Por ello, en este sentido, la industria ha sido señalada como la mayor fuente de contaminación del aire, del agua, del suelo y del subsuelo. Esta contaminación, que en numerosas ocasiones es excesiva para el suelo y los mantos acuíferos, se origina por el uso de compuestos químicos, en su mayoría tóxicos. En la industria del petróleo, el uso de compuestos químicos es una práctica común para el control de la corrosión de aleaciones de acero expuestas a medios acuosos corrosivos, para prolongar su tiempo de vida útil. Estos compuestos químicos se conocen como inhibidores de corrosión (IC). Lamentablemente, las recientes normativas medioambientales han dirigido la investigación hacia el análisis de una nueva categoría de IC conocida como "compuestos verdes", en la que los extractos vegetales están desempeñando un rol destacado en la producción de IC respetuosos con el entorno. Además de mostrar excelentes propiedades de protección en aleaciones que se encuentran en contacto con medios corrosivos propios de la industria.
