Abstract

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has forced the world's population to use different prevention practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease, one of these practices is the use of a face mask. However, this has resulted in enormous environmental damage because people do not know exactly which mask to wear or which is the ideal time to use. Due to this, this article will address the different types of masks, as the different protocols that the healthcare sector has developed for the correct use of masks and the correct handling of waste. Similarly, the various alternatives that the biotechnology sector has proposed to reduce environmental damage and safeguard public health will be highlighted.
