Abstract

Nosocomial infections, better known as Health Care-associated Infections (HAI), have been caused by different microorganisms throughout the history of human health. Currently, the causative agents of HAI that receive the most attention are the bacteria of the ESKAPE group (internationally recognized name and formed by the first letter of each pathogen: Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomona aeruginosa, and Enterobacter sp.), because they are resistant to one or several antibiotics, this is the reason why they are called "super" bacteria. Antimicrobial resistance is one of the main problems affecting humanity in the 21st century, and treatments are becoming increasingly obsolete against these organisms. Given this situation, public health worldwide is potentially at risk in the future due to the increase in infections that are difficult to cure. Consequently, morbidity and mortality rates would increase, as well as medical care costs.
