Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to explore some concepts and ideas of Adolf Reinach that are relevant for a phenomenological approach to problems of the social realm. It revolves around the concept of “social act” that can be found in his Phenomenology of Law, and contains a critical exposition of some of its main forms. When analyzing social acts, Reinach had in mind the kind of phenomena that J.L Austin considered under the topic of speech acts. This coincidence in their objects of study makes it possible to relate several ideas of Reinach to contemporary theories on social reality that draw on Austin, most notably those of John Searle and Jürgen Habermas. The paper stresses some of the possible topics of discussion and research that could follow from rethinking some of the ideas of these philosophers under the light of the works of the realist phenomenologist.
